1,000+ Trees Planted in January 2020

75 volunteers signed up–100s showed up–with overflowing waitlists for our events!

From January to March, 2020 we planted more than 1,000 trees in partnership with the Santa Cruz Land Trust, Our City Forest, and The Turtle Island Restoration Network! We planted native trees on conservation easement and land trust lands, as well as in urban places where trees are protected by bylaw. Our trees are native, biodiverse, forever, and integrated with soil restoration.

Community Engagement

"I jumped on the opportunity to register for this event because they fill up really fast! I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time. I would love to help organize the next one!”

We co-hosted a tree planting day with the Santa Cruz Land Trust. We brought 15 volunteers, who also brought their family members! Together we planted 482 native willow trees, cleared 200 yards of invasive cape ivy, and remediated 400 yards of “volunteer trail” (that's where people cut through the forest and create trails where there should be dense forest).

We co-hosted a tree planting day with Our City Forest. 44 volunteers signed up to pot seedlings for Our City Forest's urban protected trees program in San Jose. Who actually arrived: 100s of volunteers! Our original group of volunteers potted 300 drought tolerant trees, to be planted in the Fall of 2020. Together, the larger group potted 1000s of trees!

We co-hosted a tree planting day with The Turtle Island Restoration Network. 15 volunteers planted 45 redwood seedlings on a 1000-acre ranch north of the San Francisco bridge. The land is protected with a conservation easement. The family who owns the ranch wants to restore the land to pre-colonial prime redwood forest!

Creating Connection

"People want to work more together in community, with their hands, for tangible results. These events help us feel connected to ourselves, to each other, and to nature."

Partnering with Corporations, Nonprofits, Industry, and Government

To make these projects happen, we partnered with a major tech corporation to create volunteer programming for employees belonging to their global Earth Club. We partnered with three well-respected nonprofits to co-organize and co-host the events. These are nonprofits that meet our partnership criteria of (1) proven high tree survival rate; (2) planting biodiverse species; (3) planting species native to the location; (4) planting in zones where the trees are protected forever. We also partnered with local government as part of an urban forest canopy initiative.
